Machine

Stepcraft DL445 laser extension to the Stepcraft routing machines.

Setup Fusion 360

When doing laser cutting/engraving, you need to setup the laser tool within Fusion 360. To do this, go to your tools library and add a new tool. In the window, select “Laser cutter”. For the DL445, the following settings can be used:

Tab Cutter: Nozzle diameter 0.1mm, Kerf width: 0.1mm
Tab Cutting data: Cutting feedrate 600mm/min
Tab Post Processor: Length offset 1, Diameter offset 1

All other settings can be left as is.

To use the laser, you should create a 2D profile toolpath as shown below.

Laser parameters

Different materials requires different laser settings in terms of feedrate and laser power. In the table below you can find the settings I personally like to use. Note that this applies to my Stepcraft DL445 3W laser.

MDF
Feedrate (mm/min)1200
Laser power50% (M10Q127)

Acrylic (painted)
Feedrate (mm/min)600 (too high will engrave too less of the painting)
Laser power50% (M10Q127) (too high will melt too much painting)
